Applications for 2020/21 coming soon

Rotokare's Youth Ambassador Programme is an extension of our Education and Volunteer Programmes. We scout for environmentally-savvy students in Year 6&7 who are passionate about learning, doing, and inspiring their peers in wildlife, environmental education, and community awareness, all as an advocate for Rotokare!

For one year, the chosen Ambassadors are invited to expand their role in conservation in a hands-on fun and inspiring environment at Rotokare! The programme includes:

  • Seven unique Ambassador workshops covering different aspects of New Zealand biodiversity, environmental awareness, and science communication, to level up their field skills and know-how;
  • Tour guide training, for both day and night tours;
  • Developing "Talk Kits" to jazz up their public presentations and help connect to their communities;
  • Chances to represent Rotokare at special events! Our Ambassadors have helped release toutouwai (North Island Robins), hihi (Stitchbirds), and other native wildlife, and have also engaged in peer education at EnviroSchool events!
  • Networking opportunities, in meeting other Rotokare Ambassadors, Zealandia/Mt. Bruce Ambassadors, and wildlife experts, conservationists, and educators across New Zealand!
  • Annual field trips to unique sanctuaries!
