Captive Lizard Project

Rotokare is now home to 12 geckos.  These captive geckos are being used as an advocacy tool for our education programme.  Geckos and skinks are an important component of New Zealand ecosystems. They are extremely vulnerable to loss of habitat and predation by pests and pets, so it is vital to educate and inform people about them.

Lizards are often cryptic (secretive and hard to find) so having captive lizards on display gives visiting groups a wildlife encounter opportunity with these amazing creatures.
